Letter to GMS Parents

Welcome parents. I want to introduce myself. I am Jason Joens, the new Principal of Gulf Middle School. I have been in education for 26 years and I am proud to say that all of them are serving middle school students, parents and staff. I have been in Administration for 14 years and I am excited about being the leader of Gulf Middle School as we move in a direction of academic excellence.

Our Desired Effect of our work

  • GMS students will be College, Career and Life Ready
    •  They demonstrate independence
    •  They build strong content knowledge
    •  They respond to the varying demands of audience, task, purpose and discipline
    •  They comprehend as well as critique
    •  They value evidence
    •  They use technology and digital media strategically and capably
    •  They come to understand other perspective and cultures

Our (staff) practice/work

  • Intentional planning for intentional results
  • Identifying, implementing and refining instructional practice to meet the evolving academic and social needs of the developing GMS adolescent learner in poverty
  • Use data (collected from student response rates and my practice) to inform our decisions
  • Develop positive relationships among all stakeholders (students, all staff, parents, community and regional/district support staff) that promotes the success of my students, my personal growth and the success of GMS
